At Civil Safety, we offer comprehensive hydrostatic testing services designed to ensure the structural integrity, performance, and safety of high-pressure cylinders and valves. Hydrostatic testing is a crucial non-destructive method used to evaluate whether a pressure vessel—such as a gas cylinder—can safely hold its rated pressure without leakage or deformation.
The testing process involves filling the cylinder with water, sealing it, and then subjecting it to a pressure significantly higher than its standard operating level. This procedure allows our trained engineers to detect any potential issues such as leaks, cracks, deformations, or manufacturing defects, ensuring that every component is fit for continued use and compliant with safety regulations.
In addition to pressure testing, all valves are fully disassembled, serviced, and ultrasonically cleaned to remove contaminants and restore optimal functionality. This enhances valve performance and extends the lifespan of the equipment.
Our skilled team of engineers are fully trained to IDEST (Independent Department of Energy Standard) requirements and have extensive experience in performing hydrostatic testing on cylinders up to 15 litres. This means every test is conducted with precision and in accordance with the latest safety and industry standards.
By choosing Civil Safety for your hydrostatic testing needs, you are ensuring that your pressure systems remain compliant, reliable, and safe to operate. Whether you’re a commercial user, service provider, or part of an industrial operation, our expertise provides you with peace of mind and dependable service.
An IDEST Approved Centre
As an IDEST approved test centre our technicians and facilities have been inspected by IDEST assessors and confirmed to adhere to a recognised Code of Practice CP11:2022 that ensures the highest standards are met.
At our depot in Ramsey, Cambridgeshire we’re equipped to inspect and test most types of cylinders including SCUBA cylinders.
Hydrostatic Testing in Cambridgeshire
In SCUBA Diving, safety is paramount. SCUBA cylinders should have a visual inspection every 2.5 years and a hydro test every 5 years and without a current test stamp they will not and should not be filled and used.
With our hydrostatic testing equipment, we can check your cylinders for their reaction to pressure, detect leaks and check that they perform correctly and are safe to use.
Hydrostatic testing works by completely filling the cylinder with water, removing the air in the cylinder, and pressurizing the system higher than the cylinder’s design pressure limit. This test looks for any weaknesses, damage or defaults to the cylinder.
As part of the inspection, valves and other components are also checked for faults and repaired where possible.
Our team will also conduct a full visual inspection and when your cylinder passes its test you will know it is safe to use and it will be returned to you full, IDEST stamped, and with all the relevant paperwork.
